Visitors and locals on the Northwest Florida Gulf Coast know that for fresh seafood, beach restaurants, and a variety of dining options, Scenic Highway 30A in South Walton County is the place to go to eat. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks are always being served at dozens of restaurants and coffee shops along this 19-mile stretch of coast road that passes though some of the most rare and beautiful scenery in the world.

The Gulf Coast region is home to New Orleans, the white sandy beaches of Mississippi, Alabama and Florida and numerous coastal islands of Texas. This region is traveled by thousands of tourists every year to take in the rich historic ambiance of the southern antebellum homes, old plantations and sensational Cajun cuisine. Traveling this area with a travel trailer will ensure you always have a place to stay along your route. Travel trailers offer the opportunity of camping on private lots, in state parks and along the seashore as well.

lan your route thoroughly. The Gulf Coast is a large region and traveling it entirely could take weeks. Florida's Gulf Coast is typically heavily traveled during spring and summer, as is southeastern Texas near Padre Island. Mississippi and Alabama are generally less traveled, and have the longest stretches of coastal road travel available.

Locate campgrounds along your route that will accommodate travel trailers. Campground listings can be found at GulfCoastTraveler.com or RVresources.com. Though numerous campgrounds are available, you should call to confirm availability before your trip. In peak spring and summer seasons, these locations can fill up quickly. Since 2005, many campgrounds closed because of hurricane damage, particularly in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Plan to stop frequently to check out sights and points of interest. The beaches and islands along the Texas coast extend for miles, though they cannot be continuously traveled by road, and you'll have to pick certain destinations to travel along the coast in this area. Louisiana offers little coastal roadway except for Highway 82 near the Texas border, while all other coastal roads lead to waterways or canals. The Mississippi coast can be traveled along U.S. Highway 90 from Bay Saint Louis to Ocean Springs, with spectacular views of beaches and barrier islands. Alabama and Florida's coastline can be traveled intermittently at various points, though inland travel is required from Tallahassee to Spring Hill in Florida.

Dress according to the season for traveling along the Gulf Coast. This region experiences extremely high humidity year-round, combined with hot spring and summer temperatures. Dress in cool clothing. Be prepared for late afternoon rain showers and thunderstorms as well. It is common along the Gulf Coast to have storms flare up after midday in the spring and summer.

Locals know the place to see and be seen is the Red Bar. Located in the historic town of Grayton Beach, the Red Bar is one of the most popular places on the Gulf Coast and although the menu is limited, the people-watching isn’t. Celebrities can often be spotted in the crowd and the “30A Posse” (the Scenic Highway 30A party crowd) are often there to enjoy a martini and the live jazz.

There are no Gulf views from the Red Bar, but sand and surf are just a few steps away. The Red Bar is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the bar is open from 11 AM to 11 PM. The dinner menu includes a daily fish, shrimp and crawfish, baked eggplant, manicotti, and crab cakes. The Red Bar doesn’t take reservations or credit cards; cash or check only. Advertising “daily sunset celebrations,” Bud & Alley’s Waterfront Restaurant and Rooftop Bar truly is a great place to watch the sun go down. This all-encompassing eatery also boasts a Pizza Bar and a Taco Bar, so there are many options besides their fresh seafood. Founded in 1986 and named for a dog and a cat, Bud and Alley’s is a long-standing hot spot for visitors and locals alike.

Bud & Alley’s is open for lunch and dinner and serves salads, sandwiches, and burgers. Entrees include shrimp and grits, chicken scaloppini, grilled gulf grouper, and Bud & Alley’s famous crab cakes. Kid-friendly menu items like grilled cheese with Goldfish, noodles with marinara sauce, and house-made mac and cheese will keep the little ones smiling. Call 850-231-5900.

Getting tourist board information right before and even during your vacation in Central Mexico can really help you benefit from the most up-to-date details about the region you are visiting. Perhaps there is a festival occurring that is new on the calendar that a tourist board can help you with.

Checking with your own government or your nearest Mexican embassy is always a good idea before traveling to make sure you meet all of the entry-requirements. The US. government provides a list of requirements online and Mexico has many embassies throughout the world that can help you prepare for your vacation. Passports are now required for entry into Mexico.

Make sure to visit Mexico's online tourist board before your trip. The site is full of information, advice, suggestions, an event calendar and promotions. Type in the cities you wish to visit while in Central Mexico and the tourist board will lead you to the appropriate page. From the US, you can phone for more information at 1-800-44-MEXICO.

Most state governments and many towns and cities in the region have informative web sites, usually with versions in English and other languages too. A simple online searchwill find these for you, as well as a number of other useful websites.
